France, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Switzerland, Slovenia, Czechia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Latvia.
From July 7 to July 13, 2025, Ljubljana will host the European U16 Water Polo Championship – Division 1. The tournament will take place at the newly built Ilirija Olympic Pool, marking the first time this state-of-the-art venue will host an event of such international importance.
The event is organized by Water Polo Club Ljubljana Slovan, in cooperation with the Slovenian Water Polo Federation and European Aquatics – the governing body for aquatic sports in Europe. A total of 12 national teams will compete, including Slovenia’s U16 national team, which will be aiming high with strong home support and fighting spirit.
Participating nations:
Slovenia, France, Cyprus, Lithuania, Latvia, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Portugal, Slovakia, and Ukraine.
An exciting week of water polo awaits!
The championship kicks off on Monday, July 7, at 9:00 AM with the first match of the day. The official opening ceremony will take place the same day at 6:15 PM.
Each day will feature six matches, scheduled every two hours at 9:00, 11:00, 13:00, 15:00, 17:00, and 19:00. The evening matches of the Slovenian team, always played at 7:00 PM, are expected to draw particular attention and strong crowds.
The grand finale will take place on Sunday, July 13, followed by the medal ceremony for the top three teams – scheduled around 8:30 PM.
This European U16 Championship is more than just a showcase of elite youth water polo – it’s an opportunity to support young athletes on their journey to the senior level. During this week, Ljubljana will become the true European capital of water polo, hosting the stars of tomorrow.
