Cryptoference: DeFi - Behind the Scenes

Add blockchain development to your skillset

Our aim is to educate future Ethereum and DeFi engineers. This blockchain conference is organized by blockchain enthusiasts for blockchain enthusiasts. 

The conference will take place on the 3rd of September at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Ljubljana, Slovenia from 9 A.M. in the morning till 7 P.M.

This year's main topics are Ethereum and DeFi. The event is a great opportunity for you to gain in-depth knowledge through technical lectures and get actual hands-on experience programming Smart Contracts by attending the workshops.

If you are a complete beginner, do not fret. The conference is your first stepping stone into the beautiful world of future tech that is blockchain technologies. Or if you already swim in this water, the conference is where you can broaden your horizons and gain in-depth knowledge and experiences.

  • Lectures (9:00-13:00):
    • What changes does DeFi bring (Mikko Ohtamaa, MSc​)
      • Examining where and why blockchains are presenting unbeatable competition to traditional financial services and showing how blockchains create fundamental value for their users even today.
    • Ethereum 101 (doc. dr. Matevž Pustišek )
      • Explaining basic characteristics and concepts of Ethereum blockchain, such as Proof of Stake, gas fees or how transactions are added to the blockchain.
    • Ethereum Future    
      • We will see what Ethereum's future looks like? What are the current problems and how we could solve them?
    • Ethereum Scaling Solutions (Edi Sinovčić)
      • You will get an overview of Ethereum and its ecosystems. Possible scalability options that exist and what are their pros and cons.
    • What makes Smart contracts smart?   (Jan Turk, MSc)
      • Introduction to smart contracts. What are they? Where do they exist? Where are they executed and enforced?
    • Stablecoins  (Jure Trilar, PhD)
      • What defines stablecoins in comparison to traditional means of value transfer. What is the context of using pegged coins and tokens in emerging crypto finances? How are value and liquidity generated in crypto-collateralised, fiat-backed and algorithmic stablecoins?
    • DeFi Lending and Borrowing    
      • How does DeFi Lending and Borrowing work? How are loans backed and what happens if you cannot repay your fees?
    • DEX: Decentralized exchange
      • What is a Decentralized Exchange? How do autonomous market makers work and what are their current problems?
    • Prediction markets (Marko Corn, PhD)
      • What are prediction markets? Why are they being used? What type of prediction markets exists? What is the Harberger tax prediction market? What is the current state of prediction markets in DEFI? This lecture will answer all these questions.​
    • Tools used when developing on Ethereum and EVM chains (Gašper Parte)
      • Learn how to prepare your development environment and which tools are used among Web3 developers to deploy dApps (smart contracts) on Ethereum or on any EVM-compatible blockchains.
  • Workshops (14:00-18:00) (an extra ticket needed!):
    • Intro to interacting with a blockchain and metamask
      • In this workshop, you will set up your MetaMask account. You will learn how to keep your keys safe and how to interact with the multitude of dApps that are emerging
    • Smart Contract Development Fundamentals (Luka Levac, BSc)
      • In this workshop, participants will get hands-on experience with writing, testing, deploying and interacting with smart contracts on the Ethereum network.
    • Building an advanced Escrow smart contract with automated release of funds  (Jan Turk, MSc)
      • This workshop examines building a sophisticated escrow service that can be funded with any of the ERC20 tokens listed in a DEX, that are swapped for a stablecoin while in escrow and can be automatically released at a given block.
